In the modern world, there is quite a debate among photographers as to which is better, digital or film. Digital offers many things that film does not, as film offers some things that digital cannot. When choosing a photographer, you should be aware of which type of media he or she uses.

Digital photography has come a long way, with the growing availability and popularity of high resolution SLR, medium and large format cameras. Photographers can now easily take professional photographs with digital cameras. Digital photographs often mean a slightly lower price, less limitations on the number of photos that are taken, and faster turnaround time (this is not always the case of course!). Because digital media can be placed on a website more quickly than film, it is common for these photographers to place your photos on a website shortly after the wedding for you to view. On the other hand, what happens if a memory card fails? What happens if the storage device fails? Some people are worried about how long the storage device will really last, since technology becomes obsolete so quickly these days.

Film can be more expensive, but sometimes there is a certain "feel" to photos that are shot with real film. Sometimes, a photographer does his or her own processing, so you may find that they are not very expensive. Negatives can last indefinitely, if they are properly cared for. As long as a negative is available, you can get a print made. Negatives can even be scanned into a computer from home with even inexpensive scanners these days. On the other hand, some times, film can cost more due to processing costs. Film can also mean a longer processing time.
