Wedding Cards
Wedding cards, also known as “Save the Date” cards, are used mostly in situations where a lot of guests will need to travel to get to your wedding. They are also important for especially busy guests, so that they can make sure they are free for your big day, and won’t have to shuffle other commitments around when they get the invitations. Since invitations may not have been ordered yet, and are usually sent six to eight weeks before the big day, this allows your guests to know well in advance that a date is set, and that they will need to make travel arrangements for that date. They are also sometimes used as an engagement announcement.
Wedding cards are usually very simple and to the point. Most simply say something along the lines of “Please save the date for our wedding, John and Jane, January 25, 2007.” Of course you can use alternate wording if you prefer. Perhaps include a quote, or a line from a special poem.
Some couples have gotten very creative with their wedding cards though! You can have them printed on a magnet, or include a sticker for the guest’s calendar, just be creative. If the card is memorable, your guests will remember! If you already have a theme in mind for your wedding, consider styling your wedding cards to match. If you haven’t sent out engagement announcements, you might want to have an engagement portrait made (many photographers will include this with your package), and include a copy with your wedding card.
