Announcing your wedding in New York City: Part II

On Friday, I was just talking about how to get your wedding announced in some of the local dailies. There are a couple of other New York City newspapers I’ve not covered yet, so, I’ve decided to write on them today. Actually, I was thinking that how handy it actually is to have your wedding announcement done over the papers. I mean, the Internet is fabulous thing but I feel a little apprehensive about uploading my wedding picture into the Internet….free for all to use and republish. But then again, who’s to say people won’t scan the pictures off of the newspaper wedding announcement and use it anyway, right?

Anyway, here goes.

Announcing your NYC wedding in The Times Herald-Record
There’s another New York City daily that you can try to get your wedding announcement into and it’s The Times Herald-Record. This New York City newspaper is less strict with their requirements and will print your wedding announcement if there’s space for use. The person in charge of wedding announcement can be contacted at (914) 346-3175. When you give them a call, you will be given a wedding announcement questionnaire by fax or mail. The questionnaire is pretty basic – the usual stuff about your full name, your school and education and addresses. I suppose you might want to submit a photo together with the wedding announcement. Whether or not to submit your photo for your NYC wedding announcement is entirely up to you.

The Times Herald-Record gives you a 30 day lead time to get your wedding announcement together but the spaces fill up pretty fast and to be fair, it works in a first-come-first-serve basis. Once the wedding announcement section is filled up, they’ll leave yours out.

Announce your New York City wedding in Long Island Newsday
As it turns out, announcing your NYC wedding through this New York daily paper is free but there are no guarantees there either. I know, it isn’t as far reaching but apparently, the wedding announcement space gets picked up pretty quickly here too! First, call (516) 843-3567 to get their wedding announcement form (questionnaire) by normal mail. No worries, more reason to provide them with a nice little romantic wedding picture…if you already have one.

Too bad you can’t click-submit-send it over the Internet back to them. BUT you can download their NYC wedding announcement form online by visiting their website at www.newsday.com. Oh, before I forget, the wedding picture should be of the standard 3” x 5” size.

Announcing your NYC wedding in Gannett Suburban Newspapers
For this NYC daily, if you’re trying to announce your engagement, you have submit it 6 months before the wedding day – so, start planning a little earlier. To get your hands on the wedding announcement form, call this New York daily’s wedding and engagement announcement dept at (914)696-8400. Once you’ve given them your name and address, they’ll send the form. In there, you’ll also find requirements for the wedding and engagement announcement there. You’re allowed to include a black and white photo together with the announcement.

Hope that got you going with the wedding and engagement announcement in NYC part.
