Decoding things your potential prom date says right before the prom

What’s the biggest problem apart from the limousine ride and the prom dress and midnight curfew? The prom date, of course. Now, proms are normally more nerve-wrecking for girls than boys….I am NOT stereotyping here but just saying that girls just need a little bit more prep-time. So, girls, I thought it’d be fun to explore some of the things guys say that you wish you could understand so that you know what they’re trying to tell you before the prom. It’s true that boys and girls speak in different languages – and let’s work this decoding part a little.

This way, you’ll have a little bit of leeway right before prom night. Now, imagine it is weeks before the prom night and he says the following:-

Do you want to just…you know…hang around a little or something?
Er….heylow! He just said he wanted to hang out with you. Boys hang out with boys and when boys want to hang out with a girl, he either treats you like a boy or he wants to…kind of….get a little closer. Read between the lines. He’s probably thinking something like ‘I want to ask you out but you’re just so hot with the other guys that I don’t think you’re going to say yes, so, I want to just stick to something safe…like, er…hang out’. That’s like a flirt alert, girls! Flirt here, flirt in the limousine…flirt all the way to the prom, I say.

I’ll give you a call some time, ok?
If he’s taken your number and said that he’ll call you sometime before the prom, he’s probably trying work out from emotional muscle there…maybe physical ones as well. But he’s thinking something like I kind of want to call you but I don’t know if you want me to. I want to call you and ask you out for the prom thing but…er….you know, I don’t want to bug you. If you like him, CALL HIM.

We’re really great friends and all that. You’re practically my bestfriend
If the topic of the prom has been broached and his response is as above, that’s probably what he means. He means that he wants to be your friend and is not going to give another thought to going further than just that. Hey, it’s tough but they say there are lots of other fishes in the sea and you know what…whoever they are, they’re right!

Do you have a date for the prom yet?
Hey! You know what? A fish just hopped right into your net! He’s probably not going to ask who you’re going to the prom with. He wants to know if you’re taken for the prom and if you’re not, he’s thinking he wants you for his date for the prom. But watch it…don’t get too excited about it. Stay cool, keep your calm. It’s important. You can do the screaming in the ladies and then after that, you can imagine all those nice things you can do with him in the fancy rented limousine!
