Planning A Fusion Wedding In Boston MA
Planning a wedding is pretty straight forward if both the bride and the groom are Americans…we go through pretty much the same thing as other couples. Now, if you’re living in Boston MA and both you and your future spouse are not Americans, things can get tricky. Think of it this way, though….it’s different and it’s exciting.
There was one time I had a hand in planning a Chinese-Indian wedding right here in Boston MA and the couple was so excited to let their friends have a feel of both cultures during your wedding reception that they hired the best of the best for everything. I helped them hire the best wedding limo from the best Boston MA party bus limousine rental company I know and organized all the special treats that they will be giving their guests.
The biggest worry was the food. The main meals were basically very American but we tossed in a few Chinese and Indian treats for them in small portions. We had Lamb Masala which is the groom’s favorite Indian dish and then Roast Suckling Pig for Chinese food. The guests were deeply impressed. We had lots of Chinese dumplings and were quite taken with the curry at the buffet table.
You can’t pull off a Chinese wedding without having the signature ‘happiness’ sign printed on the wedding invitation and menu. The very Chinese in-laws were happy that we kept the ‘red’ in the wedding. The color red signifies good luck, happiness and everything fantastic for the couple.
The bride had a fantastic idea for the centerpiece – a large paper crane placed right in the middle of each table! And we decorated it with glitters too. The crane was accompanied by a peacock. Cranes are significant to the Chinese while Peacock is an important symbol to the Indians.
The bride had Mehndi done on her hands and legs, which is an Indian culture while the groom wore the Chinese wedding costume in which he looked so handsome and smart in!
For good measure, we hired some Indian dancers and then a two-piece Chinese musicians who sang awesome Chinese traditional songs for 45 minutes. You could do this only if you have the budget for it, though, the price of hiring two entertainers for one single night can cut quite a fair bit.
