Should kids be allowed at a wedding?

Many people have asked me this question before and I always tell them the same thing...the question is this. ‘Should we allow kids or young children to come to the wedding?’ Some of your friends may already be married and have kids of their own, you see. My answer is – it depends. Whilst there is totally nothing wrong with having kids at a wedding dinner and reception, some people prefer to keep the atmosphere romantic and quiet throughout the wedding. Having kids there might spoil the atmosphere. It's hardly romantic to find a 3-year-old toddler kicking up a fuss in the middle of the aisle when you're ready walk down the aisle looking like a princess out of a fairytale!

If the wedding is to be held outside and there's room to play, maybe having kids around during the wedding might make enliven the atmosphere. I, personally, prefer weddings held outside where kids can gather around and have a lot of fun with a pet dog by the name of 'Boots' or 'Spot'. Another point to take into consideration is the feelings and thoughts of your future spouse. Some people just don't.....you know, like kids so much and if they prefer not to have kids around during the wedding, we ought to spend some time discussing the issue and see if there's a way to strike a compromise.

At the end of the day, if you want to have kids around for the wedding, you have to do a little bit of homework. First thing first, you have to iron out the fact whether you have activities for the kids to indulge in, if you can hire someone to look over the kids or have a party planner organize something fun for the kids as an aside. This will keep the kids occupied without disrupting the wedding too much. It also makes a difference how old the kids are. The older they are, the easier it will be for you.
