The Groom’s Job – Countdown To The Wedding

It takes two to tango….suffice to say, it takes two to make a wedding a successful one! Although the focus is always on the bride as far as wedding is concerned, don’t let yourself feel left out – it’s YOUR wedding too! It won’t help if you let the bride do all the work and worrying. Spend some time thinking of things that will make your wedding as memorable for you too. Most people assume that men associate their own weddings to having a root canal done – but as far as I know and as far as I’ve checked, most of my friends are happy and anxious about their own weddings as well. Think and plan carefully together with your bride before the day approaches, ok?

First thing first, the groomsmen…we call them the buddies or bestman, whoever and whatever you want to call them, these are the people who will stand by your during your wedding and help you work out your wedding plans as a groom. One of them should be assigned to help usher in the guests. Work on their outfit as well because you would want them to look presentable and consistent with the wedding theme (if you have one) and since they’ve put considerable effort in helping you ensure that your night as a groom is a happy one, I think getting them a present….some sort of a gift to show your appreciate makes sense.

As the groom, you would have to sit down with your bride-to-be to work out the wedding list. Think of everyone you can think of, list them all down. Then strike them out one by one when you call them or think of situations which would make them unable to attend your wedding. You can usually leave the wedding location to the bride since women tend to like looking for wedding venues….or you can leave that to the wedding planner. In the meantime, the groom should plan on the honeymoon! Discuss where your wife-to-be would like to spend your honeymoon, work out a budget and see where is the perfect honeymoon for you. Grooms should also make an effort to choose the wedding bands together with the bride – get them fitted in properly so that there are no surprises during the wedding itself.

And most importantly, don’t forget the booze (that’s unquestionably YOUR job) for the after wedding dinner party!
